HLL Lifecare ties up with Acumen fund to set up low-cost hospitals

HLL Lifecare (formerly Hindustan Latex Ltd, a mini ratna) has entered into 50: 50 joint-venture with Acumen fund of USA to set up 100 hospitals across India by 2013. This will be a non-profit venture where the costs will be low to make them affordable for low income classes. For eg. Normal delivery for pregnant women will cost Rs.1499/- and a caserian with 5 days hospitalization (Rs.5999/-) Currently, 6 Life Spring hospitals are in operation in AP. By next year, 6 more will be set up in AP, 4 in Maharashtra and 8 in Karnataka.

Philips Healthcare to expand market by finance schemes

 
 
Philips Healthcare, one of the largest healthcare equipment manufacturer in the world has expanded its distribution network by acquiring two X-ray manufacturers Alpha and Meditronix. It has also introduced finance schemes and pay-per use of costly equipment to increase sales. So far, the company has sold over 24,000 equipment installation in the country.

According to Boston Analytics Consumer Sentiment Index (BACSI), which is constituted by many parameters of consumer responses to questions on  health insurance, life-styles, attitude towards healthcare, emergency and specialist medical care, OTC drugs, prescription drugs etc., This index is most favourable among policy & decision makers, investors etc.,

Indian Healthcare sector looks attractive.

 
 
With returns of around 20-25%, Indian health care sector looks very attractive in economic downturns. Many private equity firms have pumped more money recently in this sector. The average deals in this sector have also doubled up, when compared to last year. It is expected that around 1 billion US $ will be pumped into the sector in next five years.
